Jodi's Exotic Birds
The Sun Conure (Aratinga solstitialis) is a medium-sized brightly colored parrot native to northeastern South America. They have predominantly golden-yellow plumage and orange-flushed underparts and face and a black beak. Juveniles are predominantly green. The distinctive yellow, orange, and reddish coloration is attained with maturity. They are about 12 in. long and weigh approximately 110 g. They live approximately 25 - 30 years in captivity. It is easily confused with the closely related Jenday Conure.
Hand raised Suns are playful and affectionate, and make wonderful pets, in spite of their loud squawking & limited talking ability.
